If you ever find yourself shopping on the Kings Road, be sure to visit the treasure-trove emporium that is Wilde Ones. I always get lost for hours in there - it is like stepping back in time to hippy, 70s London ... and I never seem to leave empty handed! The owner, Greg, makes regular visits to Native American tribes in Arizona, where he picks up incredible, hand-crafted and completely authentic pieces of amazing quality.
What to wear as a guest for the wedding of the year??? Well, I would have gone straight to the top, and made an appointment at the atelier of Oscar de la Renta - aka Uncle Oscar - for the perfect skirt suit. Then straight to Piers Atkinson for some jazzy millinery. And finally a pair of Charlotte Olympia heels. Think demure (essential to keep the arms covered in the Abbey), but with fun fashion accessories. Wedding guest perfection.
If you are wondering what to wear now that it's summer in the city, then look no further for inspiration than Proenza Schouler's SS 11 collection. The PS boys epitomise polished New York style at it's best: super-groomed but with an edge. Think uptown-chic ladylike suits and easy dresses in neutrals and muted brights with interesting details.
Last night, I met up with one of my best and oldest friends for a perfect evening, involving wine, banana cake and a late night movie (an ideal combination). We went to see Guillaume Canet's new film, Little White Lies (les Petits Mouchoirs). For me: this was a perfect summer film (I won't tell you what happens, I don't want to spoil it for you)! Now that the temperature is rising in London, looking at beautiful Cap Ferret beaches gave me that itch I get every summer, for escapism, adventure, freedom, beaches, boats ... W.A.N.D.E.R.L.U.S.T.
It is my personal belief that you can absolutely never have too many pairs of sunglasses. Next on my list: gots to get me some white framed, heart shaped lovelies ... like this vintage pair by Moschino. Oh hi, Lolita.
Put a spring in your stomp ... with this reinvention of the classic Dr Marten with a pretty Liberty print. Wear with denim, leather, silk, lace ... anything goes! Loves it.
Yes the polka dot print is back in style especially for Autumn Winter 2011 - thank you Marc Jacobs! However it's already been creeping in for Spring Summer ... surely the best concoction when it comes to the spotty confections is the classic combination of black and white. The best thing about polka dots is that you can go super-crazy or super-cute. Wear it Now!!! Loves it!
A little bit cray-cray at Commes Des Garcons ...
Commes Des Garcons Spring Summer 2011
And another little Topshop number ... oh yes ... too cute ...
My week has been off to a slow start ... took me a while to get in gear after an impromptu Mother's Day soiree on Sunday. Not helped by the persistent grey skies in London. So uninspiring. So going to kick off the week's posts with this. Hello. Loves It!!!
My resolution at the moment is to read more (books, not magazines). I am beginning with the most passionate and iconic of literary couples: Henry Miller and Anais Nin. Currently I am interested in all things '30s and '40s, and I think Miller and Nin captured the social mores and preoccupations of these decades most vividly: especially the burgeoning interest in psychoanalysis, freedom, sex, and passion. Anais Nin especially lived through the medium of literary creation, and projected herself and her ideals and the way she would like to be perceived throughout her works. Be seduced.
I have already been predicting a full-scale 90s revival here for a few months now ... and I want to remember the movie which captured the decade's penchant for preppy peppiness to perfection: Clueless (obvi!). From collar shirts, to knee high socks (set to the soundtrack of The Cranberries), the film definitively captured a sartorial moment in time.
One of my favourite scenes in the entire film is when the camera pans in on Cher's perfect pins and white t-bar mary janes.
My latest discovery is jewelery designer Violet Darkling. New Zealand designer Louisa Richwhite has fused the concepts of delicate jewelery with her love of the nocturnal and creatures only seen at night, using a mix of gold, silver and gemstones to create pieces which are beautifully handcrafted and extremely eye catching. Loves it!!!
