Beyond the Valley

Fashion is having what I would like to call a Valley of the Dolls moment. Was the stark minimalism of Autumn/Winter everything we hoped it would be? Fuss-free easy dressing? No. It was too much like hard work set against a neutral background, and as a result, the SS 11 collections erupted like a volcano that had been simmering quietly for a few seasons. I think it is one of the most exciting seasons that we have had for a while: all rainbow brights; eclectic prints and high octane 70s glamour! Think of diving down a rabbit hole into a new, technicolour world. So much to soak up and look forward to - especially during bleak and frustrating January. I can hardly wait.

Unlikely Style Icons

Colour experts Pantone recently announced that the top colour in their chart for Spring Summer 2011 is Honeysuckle (aka hot pink).  It instantly reminded me of these unlikely style icons: the Pink Ladies from Grease.  Who was your favourite pink lady when you were growing up? Mine was Rizzo. Not proud of this but I always thought I did a great rendition of There Are Worse Things I Could Do. And I definitely wouldn't have minded getting 'A hickey from Kenickie' (Don't judge me....I was only about 14!!) Anyway I kind of want a hot pink - sorry, honeysuckle - jacket now!

2011 From Heaven

So what are we to call the new decade now that we are officially no longer in the naughties?? Personally, I'm feeling the onesies - cleverly coined by a friend of mine this morning. I am not one for making new years resolutions (although if you did, then good luck!!) as I tend to break them before they begin but here are some things that I definitely want to do this year.

A TRIP TO MADRID

I have wanted to go for ages and ages!!! I have met some great people from Madrid in the past couple of years and it just really appeals to me. I have also been ogling stylish Spaniards at the the recent Pull & Bear launch party in Madrid on Icanteachyouhowtodoit.com and kate loves me. 

PICK UP A JIL SANDER CANDY MAN BF???!


Lolz - I want one! I actually really loved this (Jil Sander Menswear Spring Summer 11). It's not often you see boys colour blocking brights. I think it's hot.

Also - unbelievable but I have yet to see 'A Single Man'. Now that the New Year revelry has come to an official end I am looking forward to putting hedonism on hold and taking life at a slower pace for a while, staying in and watching some movies. This will definitely be at the top of my list (Colin Firth is pretty delicious too!)
